“Mixing ferocity with tenderness, delicacy with tenacity … a docu of uncompromised integrity and edge-of-the seat drama.” – John Anderson, Variety

At England’s Mulberry Bush School for children with severe behavioral problems, the staff has made an unusual commitment in dealing with its students: to forgo the use of drugs, punitive measures, and instruments of restraint in exchange for patience and a firm-yet-loving embrace. When students misbehave, the teachers don’t punish them, but instead try to find out why, greeting sometimes violent behavior with consolation and gentle restraint.

Acclaimed filmmaker Kim Longinotto has compassionately documented the students and staff at Mulberry, and WMM invites you to tune in for the national broadcast premiere of her powerful new film HOLD ME TIGHT, LET ME GO, screening Tuesday, July 28 on POV’s 2009 Season on PBS.

Harrowing at one moment and heartwarming the next, HOLD ME TIGHT, LET ME GO introduces five of Mulberry’s students over the course of a year, revealing the transformations that are made possible when they are surrounded by love rather than force.
