You can now download a very non-techie letter which is intended to explain the withdrawal of channel 69 to production companies and other interested parties. Please feel free to distribute it. Responses to OFCOM need to be received by 20th April 2009.

Hi Mary, I hope you don’t mind but i have linked to this post from my blog at http://www.electronicmath.com as you have a much better grasp of what is going on with the radio mic frequencies than i do! I am just waiting in dread to find out how much a retune to channel 38 is going to cost. Why did they have to pick one of the priciest bits of kit to start fiddling with? Matthew
That’s fine Matthew, the more people we reach with the information the better! Costs of retuning of course vary with the model of microphone. My Audio Ltd 2020s will be write-offs, whereas the 2040s are retuneable for a reasonable cost. The Sennheisser G2s may not be economic but the Micron Explorers I’m told are retunable for around £400.
Licensed users will get some sort of funding and OFCOM are talking with members of the industry before finalizing how this will all happen. If you would like your views to be taken into account, both on the distribution of funding and the cut off date for licenses to be eligible for funding you can respond to the OFCOM document on their website.
