New firmware has just been released in the last couple of days for the Sound Devices 664 multi-track recording mixer. Amongst other things the update claims to help with the often cited problem that the display is difficult to read in bright sunlight. It’s managed this by swapping the colours of the screen and making the background white rather tan black. Only use in the field will prove how well this works – obviously, but from a quick test outside in the sun today I’d say it is a little better. It’s never going to be a match for LEDs though.
